After a phenomenal debut appearance in Autumn 2010, we’re really excited to be able to host this unique duo again & expect to sell out quickly. So if you want to be jazz-side in the courtyard to see these two, we recommend you book your table as soon as possible. (Don’t we just feel like kids in a sweet shop – great food, great, great jazz and we just get to work here every week!! – Mat)
Jazz guitarist Darren Dutson Bromley and bass player Jenni Molloy have been working together regularly for the past three years and play a virtuosic blend of jazz, blues and latin whilst incorporating different elements from folk, flamenco and Americana to produce a unique yet accessible sound which demonstrates a real synergy between the two players.
Darren has performed with many musicians over the years including Jools Holland has recently finished recording an album at Pinewood studios featuring singer Tina May, an 18 piece string orchestra and some of the top figures of British jazz. A leading exponent of unaccompanied jazz guitar, Darren’s recent solo album ‘My Romance’ was a BBC album of the week.
Bass virtuoso Jenni Molloy’ regularly performs throughout the country and her recent album Bach Reloaded is listed in the top 5 jazz albums of 2009 by The Sunday Times and as one of the ‘records of the year 2009′ by BBC Radio 3’ Alyn Shipton.
Recent performances from the duo have included Wigan International Jazz Festival, Saltaire Festival and the Delius Arts Centre in Bradford.

Stray’s, inexplicably…
The Matt Chandler Trio were the very first band to play to diners at Tapas y Stray’s on our opening night in July 2010.
Fitting then that, one year later the trio return from a long stint in ‘the smoke’ to launch their new album as the Matt Chandler Group entitled ‘it goes like this’ including a song entitled ‘Stray’s Inexplicably’ which, according to drummer Ian Beestin, they came up with during a soundcheck at Stray’s!
The album promises much, the majority of it being jazz quartet with the addition of Neil Hunter on keys – and for 3 of the songs the line-up goes quintet with the legendary Tony Kofi joining the group on sax.
Our Birthday Weekend sees the Matt Chandler trio playing a special gig on Thursday 21st July featuring some of their new material, plus a whole lot of standards and improvised jamming in between.
The band have said they’ll gladly sign copies of the new album with personal messages – so this would make the perfect, unique gift for anyone ‘jazzy’. Available for just £10 each.
