From April, you can see the fantastic Wendy Kirkland Duo on the first Friday of the month.

Wendy (Hammond Organ, Vocals) and Pat Sprakes (Guitar/Double Bass) have been playing together in duos and trios for as long as we’ve known them and the synergistic results speak for themselves.

They remind me of Ella Fitzgerald when she played with Ray Brown back in the day – humble, yet extremely talented sweethearts whose love and mutual respect shine through their music.

Well, on the FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH you can enjoy the chemistry that oozes from the jazz of the Wendy Kirkland Duo. The first set is at 6pm and the second set is at 7.30pm.

What is the actual connection between gruntled and disgruntled?

A circular stroll through the hidden connections of the English language. What is gruntled and when, if ever, is it disgruntled? What links church organs to organised crime’ California to the Caliphate, or brackets to codpieces?

Fresh from its success on BBC Radio 4′s Book of the Week and one of our best sellers, The Etymologicon exp;lores the strange connections between words – an occasionally ribald, frequently witty, unerringly erudite guide to the secret labyrinth that lurks beneath the English language.

Perfect buy for anyone interested in our primary art form – our language.
