Ben Webster – Three Classic Albums Plus
£10.99 Massively influenced by Coleman Hawkins and reaching his true style with the Louis Armstrong Orchestra Ben Webster reached full maturity with a string of albums in the mid-1950′s. Some of these are represented in this collection – Blue Saxophones; Soulville; Soul of Ben Webster; Sophisticated Lady. These numbers are a good an example of Ben Webster’s versatility, delicacy and mastery of the tenor sax.
Madeleine Peyroux – Careless Love
£9.99 From slow ballads to more upbeat jazz this is a fluid and enthralling album, especially the cover of Bob Dylan’s “You’re gonna make me lonesome when you go”. Bluesy, smoky and unique.

And for me personally the highlight was their version of Charles Mingus’ “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” which I didn’t even realise had a vocal version. Sarah went on to explain that Joni Mitchell had come up with some lyrics to the song back in the late seventies and I have to say,…
